Pros and Cons of a One-Day Wedding in Nigeria

The average Nigerian wedding runs for two days. While the first [being Thursday or Friday] usually takes care of the Traditional Wedding, the second [customarily Saturday] is often reserved for Church Wedding/Nikkah and of course, Reception. This trend makes it easy to have a less-chocked wedding day schedule, giving room for enough “paparazzi”. Despite this being the best option for many couples, a one day wedding has become common in recent time, perhaps as a result of its budget-friendliness.
Meanwhile, the major advantage of a one day wedding is: “you spend less, save more and get to divert funds to other things such as the honeymoon”. This is well, a very wise choice. But then, it has its own disadvantages–one of which is the likelihood of being rushed through one’s wedding day. This therefore, might be a ‘no no’ to the hopeless romantic folks like me who believe a wedding day is the beginning of a happily ever after and that one should be left with better memories of the day other than being rushed from engagement to church and then back to your hotel to get dressed for reception.
However disadvantageous a one-day-wedding can be, you actually can expect things to go smoothly with the help of a professional wedding planner (you know we’ve got you covered at Rightessential Events, right?) *winks* But in case you find yourself trying to figure out how to go about a one-day wedding all by yourself, we have put up ten (10) tips/tricks to make it a walk in the park for DIY BRIDES and we’ll be sharing:
1. Start early: You already know you have lot of planning to do. Traditional and white wedding are two unique events that have little or nothing in common, so have it in mind that you’re planning two events.
2. Be organized: You need this as much as possible. Draw out a wedding checklist and break down the list into month-by-month, and week-by-week expectations.
3. Make sure locations for all ceremonies are close : This is a yes yes. Get a hall and hotel close to the Church or Nikkah venue (as the venue for this will be constant); by doing this, you cut down on time spent driving to and fro.
4. Start the event early: If 7am will be too early, make it 8am (with no African time) Instruct your traditional wedding anchor/engager to start promptly, regardless of the number of people on seat, assign someone to make sure your spouses’ parents and yours get there early, as only their present is needed for the programme to start.
